Guys, I'm sending out a distress signal to all and i hope you could help me out or at least pass the news.
I need to form a Production design team in just one week for a two-week Indie-Film Batangas shoot.
I haven't been doing PD work in quite a while and so coming up with a team in such a short notice is challenging for me. So I'll need the help of my reliable friends.
I need people who don't really have to have an impressive resume.
Good experience, discipline, commitment and much enthusiasm is good enough for me. Panalo nga sakin ang mga new comer sa production design field dahil mataas ang sini-set nilang standards sa sarili and i love working with these individuals.
Game rin ako for Mass Communication/Fine arts/Multi-media arts/design Students as long as there's NOT going to be a conflict sa schedules nila.
I'll be needing TWO guys to help me out in Set Design, one OC and detail-oriented Wardrobe Master, diva-NOT-and-beyond-just-a-Make-up Artist...
...and most importantly, a very creative-innovative and patient Art Director na fairly-experienced na. This one, i really badly need ASAP. Dapat nga kasama ko na today sa Ocular sa Batangas. Yung mga contacts ko 'di makapag-commit dahil nga short-noticed.
May maliit na TF rin naman ito so kahit paano happy naman lahat. This is a finalist entry to CINEMALAYA this year so yun ang pinaka-gain ng makakasama sa project. A good investment for those who really want to pursue seriously in Production Design.
The shoot will be on the FIRST and SECOND WEEKS of MARCH.
Importante talaga na makahanap na agad ako ng partner kong Art Director. Again, Batangas nga ito so we don't have the luxury na mapuntahan ang location maya't-maya.
I'm also game din pala to meet some artists in Batangas. Yun lang nga, 'di ko pa alam as of now where exactly magsi-shoot. Pero, in case you got friends na Batangas-based na gusto maging involved, pwedeng makipag-ugnayan sila sa akin so we could talk.
I can get my SET-MEN and MAKE-UP ARTIST there. Pero nga i'm hoping na may prior experience na rin. Kasi as you all know, like all other Indie-Film projects, we'd like to spend wisely. Kaya kung makaka-cut ng konti pa sa budget it would mean a lot for the production din. Kung posible lang naman ito. And hopefully, may mga commendable friends kayong artists sa Batangas na maire-refer. I know that there are groups sprouting all over so sana sana may kakilala kayong group in Batangas.
Anyway, I guess that's just about it. Please... please pakisuyo po!
The Legal Rights and Natural Resources Center-Kasama sa Kalikasan/Friends of the Earth Philippines (LRC-KSK) extends this invitation to a convention for all the Indigenous People of Luzon to be held on July 26-28 2009 at the University of the Philippines College of Social Welfare and Community Development, Diliman, Quezon City.
This gathering aims to be the State of the Indigenous Peoples Address (SIPA), revolving around the themes of the current issues confronting the Philippine Indigenous People in their continued struggle for self-determination. This event was also scheduled to coincide with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address on July 27, 2009 so as to provide a venue for Indigenous Peoples’ organizations and groups to express their concerns and raise their issues, which are often a glaring counterpoint to the President’s optimistic prognosis and endless litany of promises.
The true state of the Philippine Indigenous People and their communities is significant because it reflects the situation that confronts the country as a whole, especially in the face of the Arroyo government’s prevailing economic policy, which has continually adhered to the neo-liberal philosophies of the global market-economy. This policy encourages the construction of structures such as dams, the entry of large scale extractive industries and extensive energy projects that entail serious repercussions on land tenure, food security and resource management.
The Indigenous Peoples’ struggle to assert their right to self determination will form a great part of the discussions during the activity. In addition, the conference seeks to address the question of how the present government’s neo-liberal economic policy has threatened the Indigenous Peoples’ rights to their lands. An example of this can be seen in the recent attempts to amend the Constitution and broaden the rights of foreign individuals and corporations to own land in the Philippines.
The activity likewise hopes to bring the participants together in formulating concrete and collective actions and recommendations for the continued assertion of and struggle for the rights of Indigenous People everywhere.
Should you attend and cover the conference, we would appreciate your reply, please contact us thru telephone nos. (02)926-4409, (02) 434-4079, ronald.gregorio@lrcksk.org, luzon.lrc@gmail.com, cesyl.cruz@lrcksk.org to confirm, as well as for any questions you may have.
Thank you very much and we sincerely hope for your copious coverage of the events. Very truly yours,
Ronald A. Gregorio LRC-Luzon, Team Leader
Please see also the attached background documents and guidelines for the members of the Media covering the 3-day event of SIPA 2009.
For confirmation and further information, please contact:
In 2008, some 80 indigenous women and men from 12 tribes in Mindanao gathered in Davao City to hold their first State of the Indigenous Peoples Address (SIPA). The 3-day activity aimed to provide a strategic platform for indigenous peoples in Mindanao to present to the government and the public the real state of their affairs.
It was also an opportunity for the Lumads in Mindanao to exact accountability from the government in fulfilling its human development goals. The SIPA also intended to clarify and reaffirm the basis of their historical struggle for their right to self-determination and genuine political recognition.
The State of the Indigenous People's Address (SIPA) conference successfully presented to the public the true state of the Indigenous Peoples in Mindanao including the situation of women and children.
The activity successfully consolidated the voices and positions of the Lumads and gave impetus to subsequent gatherings to highlight further the issues affecting indigenous peoples.
The SIPA clearly demonstrated the IPs’ collective strength as they directly challenged the government’s so-called pro-poor and pro-IP programs and policies.
They reiterated their call for the full and genuine recognition of their collective identity and rights over their ancestral territories.
The 1st SIPA was undoubtedly a positive experience that the participants strongly recommended for the holding of another SIPA in 2009.
Thus, come July 27, 2009, while Pres. Arroyo will deliver her 9th State of the Nation Address (SONA), her last before the much awaited 2010 presidential election, LRC-KsK/FoE-Phils. will once again provide the platform for IP communities to gather and discuss, articulate and present their SIPA. We will endeavor to reach a broader section of the IPs this time thus, there will be two 2 SIPA gatherings which will be done simultaneously. These will be in Cagayan de Oro City in Mindanao and the other, in Quezon City, Metro Manila.
Both gatherings will banner the theme “Continuing the Historical Struggle for the Right to Self-Determination”. This is in recognition of the emerging need for indigenous peoples to (close rank) in light of the sustained and systematic effort of the Arroyo government to undermine the nation’s sovereignty through persistent and aggressive implementation of the liberalization and privatization policies which would eventually lead to foreign ownership and control of lands and ancestral domains. Despite the impact of the global financial crisis, the Arroyo government continues to be obstinate in its strategy to directly involve transnational corporations in the exploitation, development and utilization of the country’s natural and energy resources. The two SIPA gatherings will be attended by at least 150 indigenous communities from Mindanao and Luzon.
Support groups, NGOs, church organizations, the academe, media, IP advocates and activists will also be invited to attend the gathering.
For this year, the SIPA hopes to reach not only the Filipino public, but also to reach out to the international community to amplify their voices, as they speak out the truth about their plight, their vision and their struggle.
Goal of the SIPA
The SIPA aims to contribute to the movement building among the indigenous peoples in the pursuit of their collective rights and local autonomy particularly in the control, management and development of their ancestral domains and resources therein.
General Objectives of the SIPA
1. Gather a broader section of indigenous communities in Mindanao and Luzon to assess their situations; 2. Provide the venue for indigenous communities to witness, analyze and critique GMA’s SONA; 3. Deepen the understanding of the Right to Self-Determination and identify strategies for its assertion and protection; 4. And to publicly voice out the genuine State of the Indigenous Peoples Affairs.
Desired Outcomes and Outputs
1. A statement on the State of the Indigenous Peoples Affairs that will also outline concrete recommendations. 2. Event proceedings. 3. A public event where indigenous leaders will present their SIPA. 4. Active tri-media coverage. 5. Invited support groups, NGOs, church organizations, the academe, media, IP advocates and activists will have deeper understanding on the Right to Self-Determination. 6. A statement of support from invited support groups, NGOs, church organizations, the academe, media, IP advocates and activists.
